Today I'm going to tell you The Secret of the Designer Series Paper Quilt Card. I fell in love with the Petal Garden Designer Series Paper and wanted to create a card with it so I created a Designer Series Paper Quilt.  The beauty of this quilt is not only in the designer paper design but the simplicity of creating it and the fact that you can use the same design with many of the designer series papers. Here's today's design:

One of the common complaints for creating a card like this is the even positioning of the squares so that the borders (around the edges and within) remain relatively even.  There's a simple secret to creating and maintaining those even borders...I'll explain that in the directions below. Following the directions I'll give you the list of supplies.

Here's the directions for this card:

1. Cut Sweet Sugarplum cardstock 4 1/4 X 11, score on the long side at 5 1/2 (cardbase).

2. Cut Basic Black cardstock 3 5/8 X 3 5/8; adhere to top of the cardbase with mutipurpose liquid glue (refer to picture for placement).

3. Cut Always Artichoke cardstock 3 1/2 X 3 1/2.  Here's the secret you've been waiting for...using your Stampin'Up! paper trimmer (item #126889), score all four sides at 1/8" from the edge.  This will be how you line up the quilt blocks to create the even borders.

4. Cut five 1 inch squares from small flower print (Petal Garden Designer Series Paper). Cut four 1 inch squares from coordinating Old Olive paper. Now, take one floral square & adhere it to the Always Artichoke square (use liquid glue) by lining up the top & left edges with the score marks in the upper left corner.

5. Repeat this in the other 3 corners using the score marks as your guide. Then adhere the Olive square between the 2 floral squares on all 4 sides.

6. Lastly, adhere the fifth floral square in the middle using the outside square of squares as your guide.

7. Tie a 6" piece of 1/8" Old Olive ribbon in a small bow; adhere to middle of middle square using a glue dot (item # 103683).

8. Stamp Thank You (One Big Meaning stamp set) in Archival Basic Black ink below the quilt squares.

See how easy that was? Using the score lines means you'll have that beautiful even border and then placing the center square is a piece of cake. (Oh my, let's not talk about cake--you know how I am with sweets!)

I needed a quick birthday card for a guy and wanted to use that fun technique with the masks we did on Tuesday--I grabbed the cloud mask and here's the result:

One of the fun characteristics of using masks is that I don't have to worry about spacing--that's all built into the mask. Those clouds are evenly spaced just right without me having to worry about it. I used Whisper White craft ink with White Embossing Powder to whiten up the clouds--and really set off that background onto which I  adhere those cool balloons! This card would be great for anyone--guys, kids, teens, office workers. 

I'll give you directions to create the card followed by the supply list. Here we go:

1. Cut 8 1/2 X 5 1/2 Soft Sky cardstock, score the long side at 4 1/4 (card base)

2. Cut Whisper White cardstock 3 1/4 X 4 1/2; adhere to card base front with multipurpose liquid glue.

3. Cut 3 1/8 X 4 3/8 Soft Sky cardstock; adhere 2 corners of this to scrap paper with removable tape.

4. Stamp Happy Birthday (Balloon Celebration stamp set) in Archival Basic Black ink (see card sample)

5. Overlay the cardstock with the cloud mask and hold tightly; brayer over mask  with Whisper White craft ink; gently lift up the mask. Note: avoid brayering over the greeting.

6. Sprinkle the stamped images with White Embossing Powder; heat with heat tool until shiny white. Adhere this to white layer on card front with liquid glue.

7. Punch a large balloon (Balloon Bouquet punch) from Bermuda Bay cardstock and a small balloon from Silver Glimmer paper. Cut two 6" pieces of Pool Party twine and tie a knot near the end. Adhere the unknotted ends to the back of each balloon with a glue dot.  Adhere the balloons to the card front with dimensionals and glue dot the knot to the card front.

Your card is completed--grab an envelope and mail this to someone who's having a birthday!

Ever need a Designer Paper for a project and don't have exactly what you need...today I'm going to show you how to Create Your Own Designer Paper in 10 Seconds.

Today I wanted to re-create a card we made at Sandi's Creative Escape a couple of weeks ago but discovered I didn't have the designer paper I wanted in Berry Burst. So I was thinking about what I could substitute and get the same effect...then I remembered the masks we used at the Embossing Paste class...what do you think?

Do you recognize the lattice design that we "pasted" in class--well I didn't have time to break out the embossing paste today so I used the trusty little sponge brayer instead--remember this useful little tool? 

I'm going to give you the quick steps to create this card and then I'll provide the supply list you can use to purchase your products through my store using the Shop Now button at the side of this blog.

Instructions:

1. Cut Berry Burst cardstok 4 1/4 X 11, score the long side at 5 1/2 (card base).

2. Cut Basic Black cardstock 3 1/2 X 4 1/2; adhere to card base with multipurpose liquid glue.

3. Cut Berry Burst cardstock 4 3/8 X 3 3/8 (don't glue down yet)

4. Cut 3 1/4 X 2 3/4 Whisper White cardstock...using removable tape adhere two tips of the cardstock to scrap paper. Lay the lattice design mask over the cardstock and hold firmly. Roll the sponge brayer over the Berry  Burst ink pad---lifting the roller after each pass over the pad to assure the entire roller is inked. Then brayer the cardstock with the mask in place. Brayering lightly will give you a light image and using more ink (multiple passes) will deepen the color).

5. Cut Whisper White cardstoxk 3 1/4 X 1 1/2; adhere to bottom of Berry Burst layer at the bottom leaving 1/16" border; adhere the brayered piece above this using liquid glue.

6. Tie 14" piece of Berry Burst Finely woven ribbon around the above unit at the junction of the 2 white pieces.

7. Adhere this to the black cardstock with liquid glue

8. Stamp "thinking of you" (Feathers Together stamp set) in Archival Basic Black ink on the white piece.

Your card is completed with your own designer paper----you can use any of the masks with any color ink and have a designer paper to match your project. Now send this card to someone and brighten their day! You don't need a reason to send a "thinking of you" card.

Ever want to color a stamped image and can't find just the right color in your box of pencils...well, today I'm going to show you How to Create New Watercolor Pencil Colors....it's really fun and easy. Check out this card 

Recognize the color of the outer flower petals? Probably not because I combined the Melan Mambo and the Bermuda Bay Watercolor pencils to get that amazing shade of lavender.

There are endless colors you can create with your Watercolor pencils---just sit with a piece of white cardstock and play with them. Mix 2 or 3 of them and then blend with either the Blender Pens or the Aqua Painters (item #103954). After blending....let the mixture sit for a minute or so to let the blending finish....you can have a great time creating your own pallette of colors. My recommendation is to write the colors you used underneath the mixture so you can repeat it in the future.

You can also change the color by how darkly or lightly you apply the pencil--try it out.

Here are the card directions: 

1. Cut Pink Pirouette cardstock 4 1/4 X 11, score the long side at 5 1/2 (card base)

2. Cut Shimmery white cardstock 5 1/4 x 4; adhere to card base with multipurpose liquid glue

3. Cut Pink Pirouette cardstock 3 7/8 X 5 1/8 ; adhere to Shimmery white cardstock with liquid glue.

4. Cut Shimmery White cardstock 4 X 2 3/4; Cut oval with the largest Stitched Shape oval framelit; stamp the leaf spray (Falling Flowers stamp set) in Archival Basic Black ink; color leaves with Wild Wasabi Stamp'n Write marker. Stamp 'happy birthday' in Archival Black ink below the leaves. Adhere this oval to the card front with liquid glue.

5. Stamp the largest flower (Falling Flowers stamp set) in Archival Basic Black ink; using the Melan Mambo and the Bermuda Bay Watercolor pencils, lightly color the outer petals; blend with the Blender Pen. Color the inner petals with only the Melan Mambo pencil & blend with the Blender Pen.

6. Add Metallic Enamal Shapes (small dots) to the flower center; cut out flower with Paper Snips and add the flower to the oval with dimensionals.

Your card is completed---now try out some other color combos and leave me a comment on your favorite combination.

Today I'm going to show you How to Add Quick & Easy Shading to a Solid Stamped Image.  Have you ever stamped image in a solid color ink and thought--that's a nice image but it isn't great! Well, it is very easy to make it great by adding some quick and easy shading.  Take a look at this card and, in particular, the shading of the flower petals:

This was accomplished in just a couple of minutes by adding a darker color at the tips of the petals with watercolor pencils and then blending inwards with the Blender Pens.  Really a quick & easy way to add some great pizzazz to your solid stamped image.

The watercolor pencils have lots of versatility...and you can use either the Blender pens or the Aqua Painters to blend them...usually I use the Blender Pens in small areas because there is less liquid and the Aqua Painters for larger areas because there is more liquid and a faster blend of the area.

I'm going to give you step by step directions with some pictures below...use the Shop Now Button to order your supplies from my online store. Here are the directions:

1. Cut Sweet Sugarplum cardstock 4 1/4 X 11, score the long side at 5 1/2 (card base); dry emboss the card front with the Petal Burst embossing folder.

2. Cut Rich Razzleberry cardstock 2 3/4 X 2 3/4; cut Dazzling Diamonds cardstock 3 X 3. Adhere the Razzleberry to the front of the Dazzling Diamonds with glue dots; adhere this unit to the upper card front with glue dots.

3. Cut Shimmery White cardstock 3 X 3; Stamp the large flower image (Flourishing  Phrases) in Sweet Sugarplum ink (Item #141395) in the center; using the Rich Razzleberry Watercolor Pencil, add the darker color to the tips of each petal 

This is the results unblended:

Starting at the petal tip, use the Blender Pen to blend color inward on each petal:

4. Using the largest Stitched Shape (square), cut out the flower and adhere to the Razzleberry layer with multipurpose liquid glue.

5. Stamp "thinking of you" (Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set)  in Archival Black on Shimmery White cardstock; punch out with Classic Label punch and adhere to card front under flower image using dimensionals. 

Your card is completed!

Here's how to do it:

1. Cut Bermuda Bay cardstock 8 1/2 X 5 1/2, score the long side at 4 1/4"(card base)

2. Cut Moroccan designer series paper 4 3/8 X 4 1/4, adhere to middle of the card base front using multipurpose liquid glue.

3. Cut Very Vanilla cardstock 4 3/4 X 3 1/2, center over the DSP and adhere with liquid glue

4. Cut Bermuda Bay cardstock 4 5/8 X 3 3/8, adhere to white cardstock with liquid glue.

5. Cut the large flower (Falling Flowers Thinlet Dies) from Very Vanilla cardstock using the Precision Base plate & when you remove it from the Big Shot, use the Die Brush to remove the waste pieces before you remove the thinlet from the cardstock. (Big Shot sandwich, Magnetic base plate, Precision base plate, cardstock, die, standard cutting pad).

6. Turn flower to back side & adhere packing tape (I used Scotch brand because it is very substantial), cut around the flower outline with Paper Snips (Item #103579) discarding the excess tape. Don't touch the sticky side of the tape excessively to keep it very sticky. Turn to the sticky side and sprinkle liberally with SGold Glitter. Shake off excess. Using liquid glue adhere the flower to the top of the card front.

7. Stamp Thinking of You (Feather Together stamp set) in Archival Basic Black Ink on lower card front.

Your card is completed!

I love sparkle on my cards (big surprise, right?) so today I'm going to show you how to get that spectacular Glitter without Glue --it's called the Packing Tape Method. Take a look at this card:

--do you know it's really hard to capture that sparkle of glitter in a photo? Trust me. LOL

This method of applying glitter is really easy, limited mess, & no glue--now that should please some of you greatly!

Here's how to do it:

1. Cut Night of Navy cardstock 8 1/2 X 5 1/2, score the long side at 4 1/4"(card base)

2. Cut Floral Boutique designer series paper 4 3/8 X 4 1/4, adhere to middle of the card base front using multipurpose liquid glue.

3. Cut Whisper White cardstock 4 3/4 X 3 1/2, center over the DSP and adhere with liquid glue

4. Cut Navy cardstock 4 5/8 X 3 3/8, adhere to white cardstock with liquid glue.

5. Cut the small rose (Rose Garden Thinlet Dies) from Whipser White cardstock using the Precision Base plate & when you remove it from the Big Shot, use the Die Brush to remove the waste pieces before you remove the thinlet from the cardstock. (Big Shot sandwich, Magnetic base plate, Precision base plate, cardstock, die, standard cutting pad).

6. Turn rose to back side & adhere packing tape (I used Scotch brand because it is very substantial), cut around the rose outline with Paper Snips (Item #103579) discarding the excess tape. Don't touch the sticky side of the tape excessively to keep it very sticky. Turn to the sticky side and sprinkle liberally with Gold Glitter. Shake off excess. Using liquid glue adhere the flower to the top of the card front.

7. Stamp Happy Birthday (Rose Wonder stamp set) in Night of Navy Ink, using the label framelit (Rose Garden thinlets) cut out with the Big Shot (use above sandwich); adhere to lower card front with liquid glue.

Your card is completed---isn't it just the prettiest?

I needed a birthday card and I needed it now...so I created the Quick, Fast, Awesome card! Check it out!

It only took me 5 minutes and the balloon isn't a stamp....can you guess what it is?

First, let me say that I used the prepared Stampin'Up! Notecards and Envelopes (3 1/2 X 5 which is the smallest card you can send without extra postage) There are 20 cards with matching envelopes for $6.00--now that is what we call a "steal!"  The work of cutting the cardstock and finding an envelope is all done for you and it is very cost effective. This is one of the reasons I could complete this card so quickly.

Have you figured out the balloons yet? Ah, well, I used the Balloon Bouquet Punch and a sponge----now does that ring a bell?  But as you will remember, the punch has 2 balloons right next to each other...do you know how I achieved the single sized balloon? I'm going to give you step by step directions and following that the Supply list. 1.  Cut Whisper White cardstock (item # 101650) 3 1/8 X 4 5/8. 

2. Fold a 4 X 4 piece of copy paper in half. Slide this doubled copy paper into the Balloon Bouquet punch to the midline of the punch and punch out.
Toss the balloons and open the remainder of the copy paper which will look like this:

3, Using a sponge and Pool Party ink, beginning about halfway up on the long side of the white cardstock, sponge both balloons. Move the template around in several locations with the balloons overlapping and using more and less ink to give different ink darkness.

4. Brush Clear Wink of Stella on one of the center balloons and apply a silver metallic enamel shape to the upper part of that balloon.

5, Stamp Best Wishes (Blooms & Wishes stamp set) in Bermuda Bay ink (Item # 131171) under the balloons.

6. Cut a piece of Bermuda Bay cardstock 3 1/4 X 4 3/4; adhere the stamped cardstock to this piece using multipurpose liquid glue. Adhere this unit to the front of the Whisper White notecard.

7. Using the same balloon template, sponge a single balloon in the lower left corner of the matching envelope.

Your card is completed and looks like a million bucks!

I need to create a wedding card and found I didn't have a background that I liked so I created a Totally Gold Card with a Unique Background....here's the card. Note: I know the photography is pathetic...it was the best I could do with all that shine and sparkle!

Do you recognize the background? Bet not! The fun part of this background is that I did it about 4 times and each time it had it's own character!  So by now you know it's not a Stampin'Up! embossing folder and it's not a Designer Series Paper, right?

Take a closer look: 

OK, I'll tell you...I used the biggest clear block, Versamark ink, and gold embossing powder. It's probably the easiest technique I've shared with you. I'm going to give you the directions below---you'll want to try this out yourself because you will have such a great time creating unique backgrounds you won't want to stop! Here's how to create this card

1. Cut Very Vanilla cardstock 8 1/2 X 5 1/2, score the long side at 4 1/4 (card base).

2, Cut Gold Foil paper 3 3/8 X 5 1/8; adhere to card base front with multipurpose liquid glue.

3. Cut Very Vanilla carstock 5 1/2 X 4 1/4 lay your cardstock on the piercing mat (item #126199) Note: you may want to cover the mat with a paper towel to keep the ink from staining the mat.  Ink up the entire surface of Block F with Versamark and "stamp" this on the cardstock surface---pressing well over the entire block. Lift the block and sprinkle gold embossing powder over the surface of the cardstock and heat with the Heat Tool until shiny gold. (What a WOW look, right?). Cut this piece to 3 3/4 X 5"--select the portion that you like best. Adhere this piece to the card front with liquid glue.

4. Cut a large butterfly (Butterflies thinlets) from Gold Glimmer paper; adhere to the card front with glue dots (item #103683).

5. Rub embossing buddy on Very Vanilla cardstock, stamp "For the Newlyweds" in Versmark ink on Very Vanilla cardstock, sprinkle with gold embossing powder, heat with heat tool until shiny gold. Punch with the Classic Label punch (item #141491) and adhere to card front with dimensionals.

 Do you like color but don't like actually "coloring" your images....then Coloring without "coloring" (aka paper piecing) might be your answer! I have a friend who does not want to make a card with any type of coloring--so I think this might help her get color without actually 'coloring.'

Here's a card using paper piecing:

The dress has a pattern (Pop of Pink Designer Series Paper) which you normally don't get with routine coloring techniques. The hat is a solid just using cardstock.

The new Stampin'Up! Beautiful You stamp set is a perfect outline type stamp to use for paper piecing... a nice outline with white space that can be colored or paper-pieced. 

I'm going to give you the step by step directions for this card and then the supply list so you can order what you need for this project.

Here are the directions:

1. Cut a piece of Melan Mambo cardstock 4 1/4 X 11, score the long side at 5 1/2 (card base). Cut a piece of Basic Black cardstock 4 X 5 1/4--adhere this to the card base using multipurpose liquid glue.

2. Cut a piece of Whisper White cardstock 3 7/8 X 5 1/8. Cut a piece of Pop of Pink Designer Series Paper (black background with pink and white hearts) 3 7/8 X 5 1/8--adhere this to the bottom of the white cardstock with liquid glue.

3. Stamp the lady with the hat (Beautiful You stamp set) in Archival Black ink (see card for placement). Stamp this same figure in Archival Black ink on the Melan mambo with white dots Designer Series Paper. Using your Paper Snips, cut out only the dress. Adhere this with liquid glue over the figure stamped on the card front.  

4. Stamp the head on a piece of Melan Mambo cardstock and cut out only the hat. Adhere this with liquid glue to the hat stamped on the card front.

5. Using the swish stamp (Beautiful You stamp set) and Melan Mambo classic ink, stamp under the hand of the figure on the card front as if she were leaning on the swish. Stamp "Happy birthday gorgeous" (Beautiful You stamp set) in Archival Black ink (see picture for placement.) Adhere 3 small rhinestones above and below the verse.

6. Cut a 16" piece of thick Melan Mambo twine-wrap around the white cardstock at the seam of the designer paper--tie in a bow. Adhere the white piece to the cardbase with liquid adhesive.

Your card is completed--isn't it awesome!
