Totally Awesome Easy Backgrounds in Seconds

Today we're going to learn to create Totally Awesome Easy Backgrounds in Seconds. Take a look at this card.... 8-13-19 Friend Like You

Isn't that gorgeous--and so very easy to do. If you were in class this past weekend you learned this easy technique. We've created cards before with the background 'wash' and many were having great trouble getting a pretty wash. I was getting ready for the class and was trying to find a quick and easy way to create the wash that was readily reproducible.

Here's my solution (and it worked really well for the entire class) that cause no moaning from any of the stampers. I added approximately 10 drops of ink refill to a large brush aqua painter (darker colors work a bit better) and filled the remainder of the barrel with water. Mix well and try out the mixture on scrap--adjust with more or less ink until you achieve the results you like for your card.

One of the useful things is that now you have enough inked-water to do several cards...the coloring goes very quickly by just running the aqua painter back and forth over the cardstock you are coloring...so it's quick, economical and very easy.

I'll give you the directions to create this card below and following that is the list of supplies you'll need. Just hit the Shop Now button or click on one of the product images below and you'll be in my store. Remember...

*Use your Bonus Day coupons before the end of August.

*If you place an online order and use this month's Host code (BW6M6NHM) you'll receive $5 in Stampin'Up! product from me for each $50 in product that you purchase.

Directions:

1. Cut 8 1/2 x  5 1/2 Daffodil Delight cardstock, score long side at 4 1/4 (card base)

2. Cut Basic Black cardstock 3 1/2 X 5 1/2, adhere to card base with liquid glue

3. Add 10 drops of Pumpkin Pie re-inker to the large aqua painter barrel and fill with water. Mix well. Cut Shimmery White cardstock 3 3/8 X 5 1/2. Swish the brush horizontally across the cardstock---there will most likely be some white and overlapping darker areas---this is intentional and adds a lot of interest to the background.

4. Cut 2 1/4 X 5 1/2 Basic Black cardstock, run through die cut machine using the cattails die (Friendly Silhouettes dies); adhere to bottom of painted cardstock with liquid glue.

5. Stamp verse (Friend Like You) in Stazon ink above the die cut; stamp the dragonflies in Stazon ink.

Antiquing Tin Tile with a Twist

Today we're exploring Antiquing Tin Tile with a Twist.  The tin tile embossing folder is one of the favorites this fall in the Stampin'Up! Holiday mini catalog...here's what it looks like with no embellishment (I used the new Galvanized Metallic paper) 10-8-18 Pre

Now it's very easy to "antique" this image by simply sponging with Stazon Jet Black ink....notice I sponged the right side and left the left side un-sponged so you can tell the difference. 10-8-18 Sponged

I used the antiqued image to create this really cute Christmas card (I'll give you the directions below)... 10-8-18 Deer card

But....if you know me at all you know that I love things that sparkle and shine....(you're thinking, did she really have to say that--the world knows!). You will notice that when you sponged with the ink it looks really cool and "old," however, that did tone down the slight shine on the galvanized paper.  So I thought....let's shine it back up a bit. I painted the tin tile image with Champagne Mist Shimmer paint...and behold a lovely sparkly shine added a bit of zip to the card again... 10-8-18 card with shimmer paint

Here's a close up of the painted area. 10-8-18 Close up of shimmer paint

What a crappy picture!!!

What a crappy picture!!!  Yes, it is and I apologize for it even though I tried everything I could think of to capture the glimmer of these Stampin'Up! Shimmer paints....I probably should have ditched this post but the actual results are so gorgeous that I want to explain how to do it and I want you to try it so you can see the dazzle yourself.

There's a secret sauce that I'll explain in a bit but first I'll show you the 'raw' painted paper and then the card....if you can imagine this paper with a sheen and shimmer all over the surface you'll begin to imagine how gorgeous this turns out.... 3 paintsWhat you can get an impression of is  mix of Vegas Gold and Bright Copper---then over the top of this is an overall coating of Champagne Mist--this gives the entire piece that extra gorgeous sheen....which I admit you cannot see in this picture and no amount of maneuvering or changing of lights would capture what I want you to see.

Here's the resulting card

Card2Yes, it's a nice card but you have to imagine the sparkly glimmer and sheen of these shimmer paints...please come see the sample or ask me for a small sample and I'll mail one to you...it's got to be seen to be believed!!!

I used a wash of Wink of Stella which in real life looks fantastic...I did a close up here for you to see: Leaf
